Which common mistake you should avoid

 Avoid overused phrases

The average cover letter is going to be very common. The resume contains overused expression like

“I’m not sure if you know”

“Thinking outside of the box”

While none of these lines are smarting your chance of getting the job, they surly don't help either. Angel Copeland, the career coach, says do not use the phrases that bother the hiring managers, such as 'heavy lifting or think outside the box or 'game changer'.

These are some more phrases that make recruiters and hiring managers murmur:

  •  “To Whom It May Concern”
  •  “I’m not sure if you know”
  •  “Dynamic”
  •  “Please feel free”
  •  “Significant”
  •  “Self-Starter,” “Detail-Oriented,” and “Forward-Thinker”
  •  “Really, truly, deeply”

Before going to word first we look at the style. Who reads your Resume is the human being or machine doesn't matter. You need to make your resume readable. Use a traditional and readable font as much as possible; do not use fancy or curly fonts; Times New Roman and Arial are safe. It is easy to understand for humans as well as easily scanned by machines. Make sure your font size should be enough to read size down to 8 or 9 points.

Write brief and proper detail

Don’t start your letter with ‘Dear Sir’ or ‘To whom it may concern’ with this wrong foot. Use brief details but not too brief. The cover letter is a potential letter to your boss. Your letter must have a couple of paragraphs that can show how you are an eligible candidate for that job. Making a short description can show or sign of no knowledge of cover writing or not a good sign to your potential boss.

Make your cover letter unique, but don’t exaggerate it.

You can start with something interesting instead of standard opening. You can express something interesting about you.But don't write about your life story.show the skills you have, give them examples of your problem solving activity, how you solve them and how you can contribute to the company bottom line. You can give your school life a different situation you have inconterd. You can describe how you use your negotiation skills to settle heated debate during projects.by which you earn grade-A.

Stay on Topic

Do not use irrelevant data. Introduce yourself. Mention the job position or kind of job you're applying for. Show that your skills and experience match the skills and experience needed to do the job.Write that encourages the reader to read your resume.

Follow the Instructions

Finally you have to read the whole job description of job posting. To stop the spamming with cover letters companies provide some special instruction in their post.If a job posting specify not to include a cover letter, don't submit it.some companies do not have resources to read this extra information.while some company look for the cover letter before interview to judge adequately. Including an unwanted cover letter shows the impression that  you didn’t read all the instructions properly. As an employer, companies never attach with your family, living arrangement or anything. In actually fact, adding more personal information can hurt your job.If you are hesitant to include some personal touches to your cover ,you can add your soft skill which hiring managers always look for. Write information about your achievement, how you handle critical situations, your volunteer work or how you led the planned time in school if it is directly related to your job position you are applying for.
